After the failure of Mattel's Marvel Super Heroes: Secret Wars toyline, the Marvel license was taken over by Toybiz, who launched numerous toylines including a Spider-Man and X-Men dedicated line, but their premier central line, debuting in 1990, Marvel: Super Heroes was meant to be a central pillar for the Marvel Comics brand in the action figure isles - drawing on characters from all areas and eras of the company's history. Like most major toylines of the era, Marvel: Super Heroes was a roughly 5" scale series, with each figure including a play feature or some form of extra accessory.

ToyBiz's efforts were massively more successful than their predecessor, leading to dozens of spin off lines over the course of the next decade, until the entire scale would eventually be phased out for ToyBiz's Marvel Legends toyline in the early 2000's.
